MENOMONIE (January 10, 2025) - In a non-conference showdown against the Auggies of Augsburg University, the Blue Devils scored four goals in the second period to secure the 5-1 win.Â
In the first period, Augsburg University (5-9-0) went on their first power play of the game at 6:45, but UW-Stout (7-6-1) was able to weather the storm and eventually killed off the penalty.Â
The Auggies went back on the power play at 12:38, this time scoring just six seconds into the man advantage. Michael Ferrandino scored for Augsburg with assists from Graham Harris and Cade Stibbe as the Auggies went up 1-0 at the12:44 mark of the period.Â
The Blue Devils went on their own power play at 15:35 of the period, registered three shots on target, but could not take advantage.Â
Shots after the hotly contested first period were in favor of the Blue Devils 11-10.Â
The Blue Devils came out on a mission in the second period firing 21 shots and scoring four goals to make the game 4-1 after two periods.Â
At 5:52Â of the second period, Augsburg went on a power play to skate a man up. But at 6:44,
Gunner Moore scored the Blue Devils first short-handed goal of the season to tie the game at one a piece.Â
At 8:53 of the period, Stout took the lead when
Hayden Stocks scored the go ahead goal with assists from
Maksis Brimanis and
Sam Kroon.Â
At 11:15, Stout scored their third goal of the game when
Jacob Halvorson beat the Auggies goalie. The goal was assisted by Brimanis and
Nicholas Stevens.Â
At 13:57, the Blue Devils scored their fourth goal of the period.
Nicolas Pigeon scored the goal with assists from
Jake McAlpine and Stevens.Â
In the third period, Stout added another goal with 4:12 left in the period, this time on the power play. The final goal was scored by
Sam Kroon with assists from
Kullan Daikawa and Stevens, giving Stevens his third assist of the game and a playmaker.
The final score of tonight's game was 5-1 giving Blue Devil's
Tyler Masternak his sixth win of the season. Masternak stopped 23 of the Auggie shots. Augsburg's Carsen Stokes received the loss, stopping 29 of Stout's shots. Josh Koziol subbed in halfway through the third period and stopped five shots.Â
Up next for the Blue Devils is another non-conference home matchup against Concordia College (Minn.) at Fanetti Community Center. Puck Drop at 7:00 p.m.Â
