OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stout softball team dropped their opening game of the 2024 WIAC Tournament 5-0 to UW-La Crosse Thursday morning.
UW-La Crosse had 15 hits and scored two in the first and fourth innings while holding the Blue Devils to three hits.
Ashley Jacobson led off the game with a single to left and
Alyssa Albrecht moved her to second on a sac bunt, but Jacobson was left stranded at second. La Crosse got a two-out two-run homer to center aided by the wind to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles then loaded the bases but
Anna Blanford struck out her second batter of the inning to work out of the jam. UWL loaded the bases with two outs in the second but again Blanford ended the threat with a ground out to second.
In the top of the fourth,
Payton Dolecki singled up the middle and stole second. She advanced to third on a line out to deep center off the bat of
Donna D'Addabbo. But again, the Blue Devils stranded a runner in scoring position. The Eagles doubled the lead in the bottom half of the inning. UWL took a 3-0 lead on a single to right center and scored on a throwing error. The next batter doubled to right center to give La Crosse a 4-0 advantage.
Payton Dolecki made a diving catch on a line drive in shallow right center and threw to second to double up the runner who didn't tag on the play to the bottom of the fourth. UWL added a run in the fifth on a throwing error on a double steal attempt.
Katelyn Belleau led off the sixth with a solid single to left, but the Blue Devil hit into a inning ending double play.
