OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stout softball team staved off elimination from the 2024 WIAC with a 5-1 win over UW-Eau Claire Friday.
Mackensie Wolterstorff took a no-hitter into the sixth inning to pitch the Blue Devils to a 5-1 win to keep the season alive.
Wolterstorff retired the first 11 Blugolds she faced before allowing back to back walks to give UWEC their first base runner of the game. UWEC hit a one-out solo homer in the sixth to break up Wolterstorff's no-hit bid.
Ashley Jacobson led off the top of the first taking a pitch off the elbow and
Alyssa Albrecht followed with a walk.
Payton Dolecki singled up the middle to drive Jacobson in for the game's first run. Stout loaded the bases but were unable to push another run across. Stout added two more in the third. Dolecki led off the third with a bunt single and stole second. D'Addabbo doubled to right and Dolecki advanced to third.
Grace Vowell drove in a run on an infield single to shortstop. Wolterstorff then singled on a bunt to drive in D'Addabbo to give Stout 3-0 lead.
After UWEC scored in the bottom of the sixth, Stout responded with a pair of insurance runs. Jacobson led off the seventh with her second hit by pitch of the game. Albrecht followed with a fielder's choice to retire pinch runner
Sammy Noreen at second. Dolecki singled up the middle and stole second to put two in scoring position. D'Addabbo made it 4-1 with an infield single and
Aliyah Smetana drove in a run on a bunt single to give Stout a 5-1 lead.
After the first two Blugold batters reached in the bottom of the seventh
Anna Blanford retired the next three batters to seal the win and pick up the save.
Payton Dolecki was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI
Mackensie Wolterstorff and
Donna D'Addabbo each had two hits and a run batted in.
