WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. – The UW-Stout Softball team dropped both games of a double header against UW-Stevens Point to close out the 2024 regular season 21-18, 6-8 and the six-seed in the upcoming WIAC Tournament.
GAME ONE
The Blue Devils had two hits and struck out nine times in a 2-0 loss in game one. The game was scoreless into the bottom of the third, when the Pointers had back-to-back two out hits to take a 1-0 lead.
Payton Dolecki got the Blue Devils first hit in the top of the fourth, a two out double to left, but she was unable to advance. UWSP led off the sixth with a triple. Stout retired the next two batters but a two-out single provided and insurance run and doubled the Pointer lead. Dolecki had an infield single in the seventh to record both of Stout's hits.
Mackensie Wolterstorff pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out four to suffer the loss.
GAME TWO
Alexa Anderson and
Payton Dolecki each had two hits in Stout's 6-3 loss in game two. A walk and a stolen base helped the Pointers manufacture a run to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. UWSP extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on a two-out error.
Payton Dolecki led off the fourth with a double to right center.
Donna D'Addabbo reached on an error advancing to second and moving Dolecki to third.
Alexa Anderson hit a two-out infield single to score Dolecki to bring Stout within two at 3-1. The Pointers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single to push the lead to 5-1. Dolecki doubled and D'Addabbo singled to put runners on the corners. Dolecki then scored on a wild pitch, another wild pitch moved D'Addabbo to third. Anderson drove in D'Addabbo with her second RBI single of the game to make the score 6-3. But the Blue Devils couldn't keep the rally going as UWSP struck out the side.
Sammy Noreen led off the seventh with a single. She stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt but was unable to score as the Pointers sealed the win on a flyout to right.
Anna Blanford took the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits.
Maddie Lambert struck out four and allowed a hit in 2.1 innings of relief.

The Blue Devils will compete in the WIAC Tournament Thursday, May 9 – Sunday, May 12. The tournament site will be determined on Saturday May 4. The Blue Devils will be the 6-seed and play Thursday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m.
