Michels Tabbed to Lead Blue Devil Tennis

MENOMONIE – Anthony Michels has been named the new head women's tennis coach at UW-Stout, Director of Athletics Duey Naatz announced.

"We look forward to Anthony taking over as the leader of the Blue Devil Tennis team," Naatz said.  "His experience and passion for the game of tennis and athletics will serve him well in this role. We are excited to welcome him into the Blue Devil family."
 
Michels arrives at Stout with seven years of professional experience as a tennis coach. He has coached all levels and skills. He coached high school players as a pro for Green Bay Tennis Center, and spent the past two years as a Racquets Professional at Green Bay Country Club. Michels was the lead instructor for Menomonie Parks and Recreation, and a tennis professional at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center. Collegiately, he spent three seasons as an assistant women's tennis coach- one season at UW-Stout, and two seasons at St. Norbert College.

"I'd like to thank Athletic Director Duey Naatz and Deputy Director Erin Sullivan for guiding me through this process," Michels said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to return to Menomonie and give back to the community that gave so much to me. I am excited to bring my passion for tennis to UW-Stout and build a strong culture on and off of the court."  

Collegiately, Michels was a student-athlete and team captain on both UW-Superior and St. Norbert tennis teams where he helped lead both teams to conference championship appearances. He won the individual Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award in 2019 and 2021 He was a two-time academic all-conference selection and a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

The Menomonie native, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 2021 from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In 2024, he earned a Master's in Business Administration from St. Norbert College.

Michels will also serve as the assistant sports communications director helping cover and promote the Blue Devils 22 sports and over 700 student athletes. He will begin his position in July.
