Blue Devils Split Twin Bill at UW-Superior

SUPERIOR - The Blue Devil softball team split a doubleheader with UW-Superior. winning the first game 5-2 and falling in game two 7-6 in 12 innings. 
 
GAME ONE
The Blue Devils had 12 hits in a 5-2 win in game one. Ashley Jacobson led of the game with a home run to left field. Her first-round tripper of the season gave Stout an early 1-0 lead. Alyssa Albrecht followed with a double down the left field line and Payton Dolecki singled up the middle and stole second to put runners on second and third. Stephanie Kuhn drove in both with a single to right to give Stout a 3-0 lead without recording an out. Kuhn scored on an RBI ground out from Grace Vowell to give Stout a 4-0 lead after one. Stout added one more in the fifth when Katelyn Belleau drove in Aliyah Smetana on a single to left. Superior's runs came in the fifth and seventh on solo home runs. Belleau, Dolecki, Kuhn, Albrecht and Alexa Anderson all had two hits apiece. Mackensie Wolterstorff scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out four to pick up the win. 
 
GAME TWO
The Blue Devils fell 7-6 in a 12-inning marathon to close out the series. Stout loaded the bases in the top of the first but were unable to push a run across. UWS scored in the bottom of the inning on a passed ball. Stout took the lead in the top of the second. Sammy Noreen doubled to center to drive in Alexa Anderson, who reached on a leadoff single. Aliyah Smetana moved Noreen over to third on a sac bunt and Katelyn Belleau drove her in on a sac bunt for Stout to take a 2-1 lead. Stephanie Kuhn hit a two-run homer to straight away center field to extend the Blue Devil lead to 4-1 in the top of the third. The first five Yellowjackets reached in the bottom of the third and t UWS took a 5-4 lead. Stout responded in the fourth when an Albrecht single to right drove in Belleau to knot the game up at five. Superior got an infield single to drive in a run in the bottom the fifth. With one out in the top of the seventh, Kuhn hit her second homerun of the game to tie the game. Stout looked primed to score the go ahead run, but a diving catch in center field doubled up the Blue Devils on the base paths to end the threat. Both teams had chances to score in extras but had scoring chances end in double plays. Payton Dolecki caught a fly ball in center in the ninth and fired home to Abbey Dusterhoft who applied the tag to end the inning. Superior finally ended the game when their first batter of the bottom of the 12th homered to left to give UWS the 8-6 walk off win. Mackensie Wolterstorff pitched six innings in relief, striking out six and allowing just two hits. 
 
 
UP NEXT

The Blue Devils will open WIAC play this weekend when they travel to Whitewater, Wis. for a doubleheader with the No. 15 Warhawks on Saturday, April 13.  First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
