Blue Devils Spilt with UW-Whitewater to Open WIAC Play

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Stout Softball Team split a doubleheader with No. 15 UW-Whitewater to open WIAC play Saturday afternoon. 

GAME ONE
A six-run fourth inning lifted the Warhawks to a 8-0 five inning win in game one. UWW scored in the first on a two-out error to take a 1-0 lead. Whitewater loaded the bases in the fourth on a hit and two walks, then scored to make it 2-0 on a wild pitch. the next batter walked to load the bases up. UWW scored two on an error and added two more on a single to left field to take a 6-0 lead. Two more singles pushed one more run across to take a 7-0 lead after four innings of play. UWW ended the game in the fifth with an RBI single up middle to win 8-0. 

GAME TWO
The Blue Devils picked up a 2-1 win in game two behind a complete game from Mackensie Wolterstorff. Stout was held to just one base runner through four innings before getting two aboard on errors to start the fifth. Abbey Dusterhoft laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Alexa Anderson and Katelyn Belleau singled to right center to give Stout a 2-0 lead through four and half innings. UWW hit a double to right in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half at 2-1. The Warhawks nearly tied the game a batter later. Wolterstorff struck out the Warhawk batter who raced to first on the dropped third strike. She was out at first on the throw from Dusterhoft to Ashley Jacobson. Jacobson then fired back home to nab the runner trying to advance from third at the plate for the inning ending double play. UWW got a two-out infield single in the seventh, but Wolterstorff got the final out on a fly ball to left to secure the win. Wolterstorff scattered seven hits and struck out five to pick up the win. The win snapped the Blue Devils eight-game losing streak against the Warhawks

UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Wednesday, April 17 when they welcome UW-River Falls to Alumni Field for their home opener. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
