MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout baseball team split their home opener double header with UW-Platteville Friday afternoon, dropping game one 16-7 and winning game two 7-0.
GAME 1
Three five-run innings lifted the Pioneers to a 16-7 win in game one. UWP hit a lead-off double to left center and then scored two batters later to take the early 1-0 lead. The Pioneers got three two-out hits in the third to score five and extend their lead to 6-0. In the top of the fourth,
Jacoby Endreas hit a two-run homer to left field to cut the Pioneer lead to 6-2. UWP scored five more in the bottom of the fourth, including a grand slam to break the game open and take a 11-2 lead. In the fifth,
Justin Sedin hit an RBI single to left field and Endreas hit a three-run homer to left center to bring Stout within five at 11-6. Collin Hageman hit a ground-rule double to center field that rolled under the fence to drive in a run. Stout had the tying run at the plate but the UWP center fielder made a diving catch to end the threat. UWP scored five more in the eighth to seal the win. Endreas was 3-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Sedin had two hits.
GAME 2
Lucas Lendosky pitched 8.0 innings of one-hit ball and striking out eight to lead Stout to a 7-0 win in game two.
Jacoby Endreas gave Stout an early lead in the second with a solo homer to center. Leyton Bowers hit a solo shot in the fifth and
Justin Sedin hit a two-run blast to give Lendosky a 4-0 lead. Stout added three more in the seventh and Lendowsky did the rest, allowing just two baserunners in his final four innings, retiring 12 of his final 14 batters faced.
Parker Hagebock was 2-4 with an RBI. Sedin was 2-4 with two RBI and
Riley Boushack had an RBI. Stout worked 10 walks.
