MENOMONIE– The Blue Devils fell 14-5 to Southwestern University to close out WIAC play Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field.
Southwestern (3-7, 2-4) jumped out to a 4-0 lead and went on the win 14-5 to wrap up conference play. The Blue Devils (4-11, 0-6) had five different goal scorers but were out shot 40-22.
The Pirates took a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Stout got on the scoreboard on
Brinley Tonn's 15
th goal of the season on a dish from
Mai Nou Vang. Southwestern added one late in the first and early in the second to take a 6-1 lead.
Ally Crymble responded 22 seconds later with her 21
st goal of the season and midway through the quarter
Maddy Nuttall scored her fifth goal of the season on a pass from
Abigail Todey and Stout trailed 6-3 at halftime.
Southwestern scored the first three goals of the third to take a 9-3 lead. Vang scored her 24
th of the year on a pass from Tonn to bring Stout within five. But Southwestern scored less than a minute later to take a 10-4 lead.
Neither team would score for the final 8:43 of the third quarter.
Lilly Thomas scored her eighth of the season early in the fourth. But Southwestern would score the final four of the quarter to go on to win 14-5.
