OSHKOSH – The UW-Stout Blue Devils split a doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh Friday, falling 10-0 in game one and wining game two 6-4.
GAME ONE
The Blue Devils were held to four hits in a 10-0 seven inning loss in game one. The Titans totaled 10 hits, scoring four runs in the second inning to jump start their offense. They added three more in the fifth and two more in the 10
th to end the game.
AJ Kargel,
Jacoby Endreas,
Riley Boushack and
Drew Ries had hits for the Blue Devils.
GAME TWO
A four-run eighth inning lifted the Blue Devils to a 6-4 win in game two. Stout had 12 hits while holding the Titans to just four. Stout got on the board in the top of the first, three straight singles drove in the games first run. Oshkosh took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on an error and wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead. Stout tied the game at two in the sixth,
Drew Ries led off the inning with a double to left and came around to score on a wild pitch. UWO took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back walks to open the inning, followed by a single to left drove in the go-ahead run. UWO added another on a sacrifice fly to lead 4-2 heading into the eighth.
Vinnie Fonti led off with a single to right center, and
AJ Kargel followed with a walk. Both came around to score on bunt from
Riley Boushack when the Oshkosh pitcher's throw to third was wild allowing Fonti to score, Kargel then scored on a throwing error by the left fielder and Boushack ended up on third with the game tied.
Justin Sedin and
Jacoby Endreas then walked to load the bases.
Jack Schirpke doubled to right to score Boushack and Sedin to give Stout the 6-4 lead. UWO got two runners aboard in both the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn't push any runs across.
Dak Doyle started for the Blue Devils, holding the Titans to just two hits and two earned runs over six innings.
Quintin Gonzalez struck out two in two innings of relief to pick up the win and
Tim Kohls Struck out two in the ninth to earn his third save of the season. Endreas finished 3-4 and an RBI. Fonti, Ries and Sedin each had two hits for the Blue Devils.
