Boushack's Walk-Off Lifts Stout past Saint Mary's 13-12 in 10 Innings

MENOMONIE – Riley Boushack hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift UW-Stout to a 13-12 win over Saint Mary's University Tuesday afternoon at Nelson Field.

Trailing 12-10 in the bottom of the tenth, Justin Schnell hit a pinch hit single to center and Drew Ries followed with a single down the left field line. Riley Boushack stepped to the plate and took the first two pitches for strikes, he worked the count even and then uncorked the game winner over the scoreboard in right center.

Boushack finished 3-6 with two home runs, six RBI, and three runs scored.

Stout (12-17) led 3-1 after four and half innings of play before rain delayed the game for an hour. Stout scored three in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. Jack Redwine led off with a walk. Drew Ries reached on a fielder's choice and Redwine was safe on an error by the shortstop. Boushack then doubled to center to score Redwine. Leyton Bowers hit an RBI ground out to score Ries and Collin Hageman singled to left to score Boushack.

After the rain delay, SMU tied the game in the top of the sixth with a two-run double. Stout responded in the bottom of the sixth when Boushack hit his first home run of the afternoon to score Ries and retake a two-run lead at 5-3. However, Saint Mary's would answer with a two-run shot to left in the top of the seventh to tie the game back at five.

Stout again regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Justin Sedin doubled down the left field line to score AJ Kargel and a couple batters later, Bowers drew a bases loaded walk to score Nolan Harke. Once again SMU tied the game in the top of the eighth and then took a 10-7 lead on a bases clearing double to that got past the diving left fielder.

Stout got two back in the bottom of the eighth, Kargel got hit by a pitch and Harke doubled to shallow center. Sedin hit a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Kargel and Harke then scored on a wild pitch and Stout trailed 10-9 heading into the ninth. After holding SMU scoreless in the top half of the inning, Harke hit Sacrifice fly to right to tie the game at 10.

In the top of the tenth, SMU hit a two-out line drive to center that got past a diving Boushack for an inside the park homerun to give the Cardinals a 12-10 lead. Stout retired the next batter to head to the bottom of the inning, setting up Boushack's heroics

Stout pitchers struck out 12 batters. Nathan Weckop pitched the tenth to pick up the win. Ries finished 3-4 with three runs scored. Harke and Redwine each had two hits.
