MENOMONIE – The UW-Stout softball team improved to 18-11, 5-1 with a doubleheader sweep of UW-River Falls Monday afternoon at Alumni Field. Stout won game one in five innings 11-1 and took game two 5-1.
GAME ONE
The Blue Devils batted around and scored five runs in each of the first two innings as they rolled to a 11-1 five inning win. Stout totaled 11 hits and seven walks and
Mackensie Wolterstorff allowed four hits and struck out five in five innings of work to pick up her 11
th win of the season.
Stout started fast, with the first three batters reaching.
Donna D'Addabbo hit an RBI groundout to second to drive in the games first run.
Stephanie Kuhn followed with a single to left center to drive in two more and Stout led 3-0. After
Grace Vowell reached on a throwing error
Alexa Anderson singled to center field to score Kuhn and
Katelyn Belleau drove in Anderson with a single through the left side to give Stout a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Alyssa Albrecht led off the second inning with a single to left and Peyton Dolecki and Kuhn followed with walks to load the bases for Vowell to singled to left to drive in a run. Dolecki and Kuhn then scored on wild pitches. Two more walks by Wolterstorff and Belleau loaded the bases again and
Ashley Jacobson singled up the middle to score two more to give Stout a 10-0 lead after two innings of play.
Dolecki led off the third with a double to deep left center and came around to score on a Vowell single up the middle to extend the Stout lead to 11-0. The Blue Devils again loaded the bases but were unable to score in the inning.
River Falls got on the board in the fourth inning when their first three batters reached on a walk and back-to-back hits down the left field line. But the next three Falcons were retired in order to end the threat and hold UWRF to just a run.
Jacobson, Albrecht and Vowell each had two hits. Kuhn, Vowel and Jacobson each had two RBI and Dolecki scored three runs.
GAME TWO
A two-run homer in the fifth by
Elly Holden highlighted Stout's 5-1 win in game two.
Anna Blanford scattered three hits over seven innings to lead the Blue Devils to the win.
Stout again struck first in the bottom of the first inning.
Ashley Jacobson led off with a double to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Peyton Dolecki singled to center to drive in the game's first run.
The game stayed scoreless until the fourth.
Alexa Anderson doubled to left center.
Liz Rohl ground out to third and when Anderson tried to advance to third the Falcons throw from first was errant allowing Anderson to score to give Stout a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth,
Elly Holden doubled the Blue Devil lead, with her first career home run. A drive to left center that scored
Adeline Lund, who pinch ran for Jacobson, who drew a walk earlier in the inning. Dolecki followed with a walk and stole second, her second swiped bag of the game. She came around to score on
Donna D'Addabbo's single up the middle to extend the Blue Devil lead to 5-0.
UWRF got a run back in the top of the sixth on a two-out solo shot to left. But Blanford retired four the next five batters to close out the game.
With the sweep, Stout moves into a three-way tie atop the WIAC standings.

The Blue Devils will make the short trip over the Eau Claire for a double header with the Blugolds on Tuesday, April 23. First pitch from Bollinger Fields is set for 4 p.m.
