MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout Women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-10 thriller Wednesday night at Nelson Field to Marian University.
Emma Mathews and
Mai Nou Vang each scored a hat trick for the Blue Devils.
After falling behind early in the first, Stout responded with goals from
Emma Mathews and
Megan Palmer. to take a 2-1 lead. Mathews goal was her 23rd of the season and Plamer netted her eighth. The Sabres tied the game midway through the first and took the lead with one second left in the quarter to head into the second up 3-2.
Mai Nou Vang scored her 13th of the season just 26 seconds into the second to tie up the game. Marian retook the lead a 100 seconds later. Vang netted her second of the game and 14th of the season and 89 seconds after that Mathews scored her scored of the contest and 24th of the season to give Stout a 5-4 lead. Vang scored her hat-trick goal with 6:36 left to play in the second and
Ally Crymble scored her 14th of the two minutes later to give Stout a 7-4 halftime lead. Mathews gave Stout an 8-4 lead 99 seconds into the third. Marian scored three-straight to get within one before Crymble scored her second of the game and 15th of the season with 38 seconds left on the clock in the third. Marian opened the third with three straight goals to take a 10-9 lead with 9:12 remaining. Mathews then scored her fourth of the game and 26th of the season just 18 seconds later to tie the game at 10. The Sabres scored the go-ahead goal with 4:11 and Stout was unable to find the equalizer.
