MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout baseball team split a doubleheader with ninth ranked UW-La Crosse Wednesday afternoon at Wakanda Park. Stout took game one 7-6 and fell in 10 innings 12-8 in game two.
GAME ONE
A five-run first inning propelled the Blue Devils to a 7-6 upset win in game one. After the first two batter were retired,
Justin Sedin worked a walk,
Jacoby Endreas was hit by the pitch and Leyton Bowers reached on catcher's interference to load the bases.
Nolan Harke drove in
Sedin on an infield single to third and Justin Schell followed with a grand slam to left to give Stout the 5-0 lead and provide a big lead for starting pitcher
Lucas Lendosky.
Lendosky kept the Eagles scoreless until the plated a pair in the fourth.
Harke homered in the sixth to extend the Blue Devil lead to 6-2 and
Parker Hagebock singled to left to drive in
Schnell to give Stout a 7-2 advantage. UWL hit a three-run homer to right in the seventh to get within two and added another in the eighth to trail 7-6 heading into the ninth. The Eagles got two aboard in the top of the ninth, but
Tim Kohls got the next two batters to secure the win an earn the save.
Lendosky pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits to pick up the win.
Harke was 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
GAME TWO
Stout fell in extra innings 12-8, nearly sweeping the Eagles. La Crosse started quickly, scoring three in the top of the first. Stout got two back on a two-run shot by
Jack Schirpke to right.
Schirpke then tied the game with an RBI single in the second.
Jacoby Endreas hit a solo shot to left in the third to give Stout a 4-3 lead. The Eagles retook the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs.
Nolan Harke and
Justin Schnell hit RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. La Crosse then scored three in the top of the eighth to take a 8-6 lead. Parker
Hagebock and
Justin Sedin each reached on a error and Endreas singled to left to cut the deficit to 8-7.
Harke singled to left to tie the game, Schnell walked to load the bases, but a hard line out ended the threat. UWL the scored four in the top of the 10th to take the game 12-8 as Stout went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.

The Blue Devils will host #24 UW-Stevens Point in a four-game weekend series on Saturday April 13 and Sunday April 14. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m. both days.
