MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Blue Devils scored seven second half goals to defeat Augsburg 10-7 Wednesday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.
Mai Nou Vang scored four goals and an assist for five points as the Blue Devils improved to 2-0 wtha 10-7 win over Augsburg (1-3).
The game started slow, Stout managed just three shots on goal in the first quarter. The Auggies managed just two on net but scored the only goal of the opening quarter with a goal with 4:49 left.
Ally Crymble tied the game up early in the second quarter with a man-up goal on pass from
Ellie Gandy. The teams traded goals, with
Megan Palmer scoring with 4:33 left and Vang scoring on a man-up free position shot with 1:59 left before halftime to enter the intermission tied at three.
Augsburg scored 1:19 into the third, which was answered with Crymble's second goal of the game just two minutes later. Vang scored her second to give Stout their first lead of the game. Augsburg quickly answered to tied the game at five. Vang scored her hat trick goal at 6:11 of the third to give Stout the lead for good. Palmer found the back of the net just over a minute later and Stout led 7-5 heading into the fourth quarter.
Emma Mathews scored the eventual game winner just over a minute into the final quarter on a pass from Vang to give Stout a 8-5 lead. Elli Gandy scored a couple of minutes later to give Stout their larger lead of the day at 9-5 with 11:25 left to play.
After an Augsburg goal, Vang sealed the win with her fourth of the day with 4:18 left in regulation. The Auggies didn't go down without a fight, drawing back within three with 3:38 left on the clock, but weren't able to get any closer as the Blue Devils stayed unbeaten on the season.
Katt Squire made six saves to earn the win and had three ground balls.
Palmer had six draw controls and Crymble had four caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Stout totaled 20 shots on goal, forced 34 turnovers and held a slight edge in ground balls 29-27. Augsburg was 13-7 on draw controls and both teams had 18 successful clear attempts.
