MENOMONIE - The Blue Devil lacrosse team dropped it's home opener 9-6 to Cornell College Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils (2-1) fell 6-9 in a tough physical game to Cornell College (4-0) in windy conditions Saturday. Stout scored the first goal of the game at 5:37 of the first quarter.
Ally Crymble scored her sixth goal of the year on a free position shot to break the scoreless tie. less than two minutes later, Cornell scored on the man advantage and added another to take a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of play.
The second quarter was scoreless until CC scored with seven seconds left on a free position shot to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
Cornell took a 4-1 lead just 13 seconds into the third quarter.
Megan Palmer scored her fifth of the season to cut the lead in half. The Rams responded with two goals to take a 6-2 lead before Emma Matthews tallied her first of the game on a pass from
Ellie Gandy. CC the scored twice in the final 45 seconds to hold a 8-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Stout scored three straight goals in 2:13 seconds to get within two with 9:24 left to play. Matthews tallied her second of the game and fifth of the season. Crymble scored her scored and seventh of the year. and
Mai Nou Vang scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season to bring Stout within two.
With 7:48 left to play, Cornell regained a three-goal advantage and Stout was unable to find the back of the net in the final seven minutes of play.
Both teams had 29 ground ball, CC held a slight 10-9 advantage on draw controls and turnovers 28-33.

The Blue Devils will ba back in action on Thursday, March 14 when they travel to Davenport, Iowa to face Saint Ambrose University. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
