MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout lacrosse team fell 13-7 to the University of Northwestern (MN) Wednesday evening at Nelson Field.
Emma Mathews scored five goals for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils (3-3) were held scoreless in the second half and were out shot 40-15 in the loss to the Eagles (3-4). Stout fell behind in the first minute, but responded 23 seconds later when Mathews scored her first of the game and 18th of the year. Matthews scored five straight for Stout, who took a 5-1 lead.
Ally Crymble scored her 13th of the season with 2:05 left in the first and UNW scored with 15 seconds left and Stout led 6-2 after the first quarter. UNW scored the next three to pull within one at 6-5 before
Brinley Tonn scored her first of the year to give Stout a 7-5 lead. The Eagles scored one more before the half to enter the break down a goal at 7-6. Northwestern then scored the only four goals in the third quarter to take a 10-7 lead and added three more in the fourth to win 13-7. UNW held a 47-33 edge in ground balls and forced 42 Stout turnovers.
Katt Squire made 16 saves for the Blue Devils.
