MANKATO, Minn. - The UW-Stout softball team opened the 2024 season with a pair of win at the Bethany Lutheran Invite at the MSU Dome Saturday night. Stout beat Crown College 16-3 and St. Scholastica 5-1.
GAME 1
Stout opened the season with a16-3 win over Crown College. Stout had 10 hits, 10 walks and stole seven bases in the win.
After being scoreless through three innings, The first three batters reached for Stout in the fourth. Taylor Haessley then drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single and Emma Nuehlenbeck followed with an RBI ground out to give Stout a 2-0 lead. Crown got a run back in the bottom of the fourth.
Stout broke things open in the top of the fifth. scoring seven runs on five hits and four errors.
Payton Dolecki and Donna D'Addobbo each singled and stole a base, two of six stolen bases in the inning.
Ashley Jacobson then drove in two on an error, and
Alexa Anderson hit an RBI single. Haessley hit a sac fly to right filed and Muehlenback reached on a error to make it 7-1. Arianna Temmers and Alyssa Albecht hit RBI singles and the Blue Devils lead 9-1
In the top of the sixth, the first six Blue Devils walked, Haessley, Muehlenbeck and Temmers all got RBI walks. Dolecki drove in another run on an error and three more walks drove in three more runs with D'Addaboo Jacobson and Dusterhoft all picking up RBI.
Lambert came in in the bottom of the sixth and shut the door to seal the win.
Anna Blanford pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits to pick up the win.
GAME TWO
Mackensie Wolterstorff pithed seven innings striking out 14 and allowing one run on two hits to pick up the complete game win in Stoutls 5-1 victory over St. Scholastica.
Katelyn Belleau led of the bottom of the third with a triple and Stephanie Khun followed with an RBI single. Kuhn then stole second and Dolecki drove her in with a single to put the Blue Devils up 2-0.
D'Addabbo hit a two-out double down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth. Albrecht drew a walk and D'Addabbo advanced to third on a wild pitch. Albrecht stole second and D'Addabbo scored on the throw.
Kuhn added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI ground out.

The Blue Devils will play two more games tomorrow at the the MSU Dome. Stou twill face Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 8 a.m. and Hamline University at 10:30 a.m.
