MENOMONIE (February 17, 2024) - After Stout beat Northland Friday night 7-0, the Blue Devils earned a trip to the second round of the WIAC Men's Ice Hockey Tournament after beating the Lumberjacks 4-1 on Saturday night.
In the first period, UW-Stout (12-13-2) went on their first power play of the game at 8:36 of the period, but Northland College (1-26-0) killed off the penalty.
At 11:21 of the period, the Lumberjacks went on their own power play and the Blue Devils stopped them keeping the game at zeros.
Stout was the first to answer on the scoreboard when
Caleb Serre scored for the Blue Devils with an assist by
Dylan Rallis at 16:21 of the period.
Northland went on their second power play of the game at 18:47. The first period ended with the Blue Devils leading 1-0.
The Lumberjacks started the second period on the power play for 48 seconds and Stout killed off the minor penalty.
At 5:50 of the second period, Stout went on their own power play, but the Lumberjacks killed off the penalty.
At 9:46, Northland got a man advantage after a Stout penalty, but Stout was able to kill off the penalty to keep the game at 1-0.
After two periods, the Blue Devils led in shots 18-13.
In the third period, Stout took a two goal advantage when
Boyd Stahlbaum found the back of the net with an assit from
Kullan Daikawa at 6:28.
The Blue Devils went on the power play at 12:01 of the period. During the power play,
Tyler Sanborn ripped a slap shot from the point and scored his first career goal to make the game 3-0.
Stout scored again at 14: 47 when
Peyton Hart beat the Lumberjack goalie.
Northland would score at 19:03 to make the game 4-1. The goal was scored by Ben Stewart with an assist from Bryson Cecconi.
At the end of the game,
Tyler Masternak earned the win stopping 17 shots. Northland's Viktor Wennberg stopped 21 shots.
With the Blue Devil win, they will travel to Eau Claire on February 23 and February 24 in the second round of the WIAC Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Puck drop for both nights will be at 7 p.m.
