Blue Devils Win Fifth Straight, 71-66 over River Falls

The Basics
Score: UW-Stout 71, UW-River Falls 66
Record: Blue Devils (17-7, 7-6), Falcons (14-10, 5-8)

Stout built a 12-point lead early in the fourth and held off a late River Falls rally to win their fifth straight game 71-66 Wednesday night.  A back and fourth first quarter saw UWRF lead 19-18 after 10 minutes of play. Lauren Arenz hit a triple midway through the second to give the Blue Devils the lead and Stout took a 36-33 lead into the half. Stout maintained the lead through out the third and Sam Schaeffer trey with 24 seconds left gave Stout a six-point lead heading into the fourth. Stout opened on a the final quarter on a 6-0 run and Stout lead by 12 with 8:09 left on the clock. UWRF started to chip away and got within two with 3:37 lef tin regulation. Stout responded with back to back triples from Lexi Wagner and Anna Mutch to give Stout a 66-59 lead with 2:42 remaining. UWRF again got within two points but a Raegan Sorensen turnaround jumper in the paint gave Stout a four point advantage with 17 seconds left to play then stole the ball on the Falcons next possession to seal the win. 

Top Performers
  • Lexi Wagner was 6-12 shooting and 4-7 from deep for a team-high 18 points. 
  • Anna Mutch was 5-8 for 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
  • Raegan Sorensen scored 12 points and pulled down four rebounds. 
  • Amanda Giesen scored eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.  

Inside the Box Score  
  • Stout shot 50 percent (24-48) from the field. River Falls was 20-49 (40.8 percent).
  • Both teams scored inside, Stout led UWRF 26-22
  • Stout had a slight edge on the glass 31-26.
  • The teams combined for 17 made 3-point field goals. Stout was 9-19 and UWRF was 8-28

UP NEXT 
The Blue Devils will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 17 when they host UW-Platteville. The winner of the game will be the three-seed in the upcoming WIAC tournament. Tip-off from the Johnson Field house is set for 2 p.m.
