Sorensen, Mutch Record Double-Doubles in 66-52 Win Over Platteville

MENOMONIE, Wis. - Raegan Sorensen and Anna Mutch recorded double-doubles in the Blue Devils 66-52 win over UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Fieldhouse. 

Sorensen was 12-20 from the field for a game-high 26 points. She pulled down 12 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. Anna Mutch was 7-13 shooting for 16 points and 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal. 

Stout, 18-7, 8-6, clinched the third-seed in the upcoming WIAC Tournament with the win. Platteville (14-11, 7-7) dropped to fourth in the league standings. 

Stout opened the game holding the Pioneers to just 1-13 from the field and took a 13-4 lead after ten minutes. Sorensen led Stout with four points and Sophie Moran made an and-one layup off of an offensive rebound for three points. Stout had three of their nine offensive boards in the quarter. 

Amanda Giesen hit a free-throw early in the second quarter to put Stout up 10. Giesen finished with five points and eight rebounds. 

But UWP went on a run to get within one at 15-14 near the midway point of the quarter. Anna Mutch scored a fast-break layup to stop the run and Sorensen hit a jumper to give Stout a five point advantage. 

Sorensen opened the third quarter with back-to-back buckets to give Stout a seven point lead. The Pioneers wouldn't go away quietly, battling back to get within a point twice But Sam Schaeffer provided a scoring spark scoring seven of the Blue Devils next nine points to help Stout to a seven point lead heading into the fourth. 

Platteville pulled within three with seven minutes to play, but a Sorensen and-one put an end to the threat and Mutch drilled a trey to put Stout back up seven. Sorensen answered the next three UWP baskets with buckets of her own to keep the nine-point advantage. 

Stout would hit free-throw down the stretch to pull was with the 14-point win. 

Both teams struggled from distance, going a combined 7-52 from beyond the arc. UWP was 4-26 and Stout was 3-26 from deep. Stout out scored the Pioneeers 36-32 in the paint. 

Both Teams had 13 turnovers, Stout turned those into 12 points, while the Pioneers scored only six points off of takeaways,

The Blue Devils open the WIAC Tournament as the three-seed and host sixth seeded UW-River Falls on Monday, Feb. 19. Tip-off from the Johnson Fieldhouse is set for 7:05 p.m.
