STEVENS POINT – The University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils men's hockey team settled for a 2-2 tie with No. 13 UW-Stevens Point and dropped the extra point to the Pointers in a Shootout, falling 2-0.
The Blue Devils trailed 1-0 after one period of play.
Boyd Stahlbaum's first goal of season midway through the second tied the game at one. The power play tally was Stout sevenths of the season. Later in the period,
McCabe Dvorak, playing in his first game of the season, scored for the extended goal line at 14:27 to give Stout a 2-1 lead.
Stout held the lead until midway through the third when the Pointers tied the game at two on their second power play goal of the night. Stout had a couple of good chances late in the period, but the game went to overtime. In the extra period, Stout had several good looks early but could not put one past the UWSP netminder. Stevens Point had a breakaway stuffed by
Tyler Masternak, who stood up to the task and made several stops late in overtime to finish 39 saves to tie a career high.
In the shootout, UWSP scored on their first and third attempts to pick up the extra point in the WIAC standings with a 2-0 win.
