St. Cloud, Minn. – UW-Stout fell to MIAC foe St. John's Saturday night 3-1 at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
St. John's scored two late goals in the 2
nd period to propel them to a victory in a chippy matchup between Stout and their MIAC foe.
The Johnnies opened the scoring with 5:27 remaining in the first period off of a goal from Logan Lyke. The Blue Devils answered early in the second period, capitalizing on the powerplay with a goal from
Nicholas Stevens, assisted by
Sam Kroon and
Kullan Daikawa. St. John's responded with a powerplay goal of their own in the later stages of the second period. Spencer Rudrud for finished the scoring for the contest to give the Johnnies a 3-1 lead, which would be the final tally. Special teams were a big factor in the game, as the Johnnies took advantage of their powerplay opportunities scoring on one of their two chances. The Blue Devil powerplay buried once, but they were not able to find another goal in five more chances with the man advantage.
