MENOMONIE (November 22, 2024) - In the first WIAC matchup of the 2024-25 season for the Blue Devils ended with a 4-2 win against the Lumberjacks.
Nicolas Pigeon scored the first two Stout goals as the Blue Devils rattled off 52 shots.
At 3:50 of the first period, UW-Stout (4-2-0, 1-0-0 WIAC) went on their first power play of the game, but Northland College (0-5-0, 0-1-0 WIAC) killed off the penalty.
Through 10 minutes of the game, Stout led in shots 8-0 over the Lumberjacks.
At 11:02 of the period, Northland went on their first power play. During the power play, Northland scored at 12:54 of the period when Logan Gallagher recorded the goal with an assist from Evan Ilkos. After the goal, both teams skated full strength.
Stout went on their second power play of the game at 13:50, but could not find the back of the net and the game remained 1-0 in favor of the Lumberjacks.
With just under three minutes left in the first period, the game saw four on four hockey when both teams received a penalty. During four on four hockey, the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard at 17:56. The goal was scored by
Nicolas Pigeon, his fifth of the season, with an assist from
Noe Perez to tie the game up.
After one period, the Blue Devils led in shots 18-1.
In the second period, no penalties or goals were tallied until 10:01 when the Blue Devils took the lead. The goal was scored by Pigeon, his second of the night, and was assisted by
Zachary Aprea-Ricard and
Gunner Moore.
Stout scored again at 13:07 of the period, when
Sam Kroon fired a shot from the top of the circles and beat Lumberjacks goalie to make the game 3-1 in favor of the Blue Devils. The goal was assisted by
Caleb Serre and
Jake McAlpine.
At 13:29, Northland went on another power play to try and get to within one goal. But ultimately, was killed off by Stout and the game remained 3-1.
Stout went on a power play at 16:00 of the period, but could not find the back of the net for their fourth goal of the night.
After two periods, Stout was leading in shots 37-4. Northland would start on the power play at the beginning of the third period.
To start the third period, Northland's power play was killed by Stout and the game stayed at 3-1.
Stout went on their own power play at 6:44 of the period. On the power play,
Jacob Halvorson scored his second goal of the year with assists going to
Hayden Stocks and
Boyd Stahlbaum to make the game 4-1.
At 16:11 of the period, the Lumberjacks went on a power play. Northland scored their second power play goal of the game when Joe Weber beat Green to get within two goals. The goal was assisted by Ben Stewart and Brock Hart.
Northland was down two goals when they went on another power play at 17:27 of the period, but Stout killed off the penalty to stop the momentum and the Blue Devils secured the first WIAC win.
Dawson Green received the win for the Blue Devils, stopping nine shots. Lumberjack's Dakota Meyer ended the game stopping 48 Blue Devil's shots.
