Bethel Tops Blue Devils 5-3

BLAINE, Minn. – UW-Stout fell for the first time in 2024, dropping a 5-3 decision to Bethel University Friday night at the National Sports Center.

Bethel scored early in the third and added an empty net goal to escape with a 5-3 win.

Trailing 1-0 late in the first, Boyd Stahlbaum found Jacob Halvorson all alone on the left side of the crease to tap in his first goal of the season.

Stout had an early 5-3 power play for 1:13 but couldn't put one past the Bethel netminder. Later, Bethel had their own 5-3, The Royals scored one and added another just three seconds after the last penalty expired to take a 3-1 midway through the second. Just over two minutes later, Nicolas Pigeon scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play to pull Stout within one. With 3:18 left in the period, Evan Vanden Heuvel scored his first of the year to tie the game.

Bethel then opened the third with a goal 1:25 in. Stout had good chances but couldn't find the equalizer.
