RIVER FALLS – The UW-Stout women's soccer team opened WIAC play with a 2-1 loss at UW-River Falls Wednesday afternoon.
A goal in the 76
th minute lifted River Falls (6-3-1, 1-0-0) to a 2-1 win over the Blue Devils (0-6-2, 0-1-0) on a blustery day at Ramer Field.
Stout appeared to score in the second minute on a header off a corner kick, but the play was ruled offside. The Falcons broke the scoreless tie 30 minutes into the contest on low shot from the right side of the box that snuck past a diving
Kristen Silenzi. Both teams had chances in the first half with UWRF totaling 17 shots with four on target, Stout had nine shots with four on goal.
In the 60th minute, Stout tied the game at one,
Carly Kauffman took a pass from
Kate Holst and from the just inside the 18 scored off the inside of the left post past a diving UWRF goalkeeper to get the Blue Devils on the scoresheet.
The game remained scoreless for another 15 minutes, with in the 76
th minute UWRF corralled a loose ball just outside the Blue Devil 18 and looped a shot just under the bar and the Falcons took a 2-1 lead with 14 minutes to play. Stout was unable to find the equalizer. In all, Stout totaled a season-high 18 shots, with 10 on target.

The Blue Devils will return home this Saturday, Oct. 5, when they welcome UW-Stevens Point to Nelson Field for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
