The Blue Devils dropped a back-and-forth four set match to Augsburg Friday night. In total the match saw 34 ties and 15 lead changes. Stout fell behind early in the first set 9-4. Four straight Auggie attacking errors allowed Stout to draw even at 14. Tied at 18m Augsburg went on a 4-1 run to go up 23-19. Stout tried to rally and pulled within one, but Augsburg closed on a kill to take the first set 25-23. The second set saw 13 ties and seven lead changes. Tied at 21, Stout closed on a 4-1 run to the match at a set a piece. Tied at 10 in the third set Augsburg pulled away and easily won 25-16. The fourth set saw 14 ties and six lead changes. Stout held leads of 10-6 and 13-9, but Augsburg fought back to take a 17-16 lead. Stout responded and led 20-18. Tied at 21, Stout scored three straight to take a 24-21 advantage. But the Auggies again rallied at tied the match at 24. Stout had three chances to win and force a fifth set, but ultimately fell 31-29.
