MENOMONIE - Milwaukee School of Engineering (8-5-2) used two power play goals to skate by UW-Stout (5-7-1) 4-2 to open the new year.
MSOE was 2-4 on the man advantage and scored into the empty net to seal the win. Stout totaled nine shots on four power play opportunities but could put one past the Raiders goaltender.
Stout struck first,
Nicolas Pigeon was skating down the left boards and found
Boyd Stahlbaum in the slot for the freshman's 10th goal of the season. MSOE found the back of the net with just under three minutes left in the first on the power play to tie the game at one. 84 seconds later MSOE took the lead at 2-1. The Raiders led in shots on net 12-9 after 20 minutes.
MSOE stuck again three and a half minutes into the second to take a 3-1 lead. Stout outshot the Raiders 18-4 in the second but couldn't find the back of the net.
Stout got within a goal with 45 seconds left in the game when with the extra attacker,
Gunner Moore scored his first of the season on a shot from the point that got through traffic to bring the score to 3-2.
MSOE sealed the game, but finding the empty net with 30 seconds to play.
Stout outshot MSOE 35-21.
Dawson Green made 17 saves for Stout.
The Blue Devils will face (RV) Bethel University on Friday, Jan. 5. Puck drop is set for 7p.m. from the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.
