MENOMONIE (January 12, 2024) - The Johnnies scored three goals in the third period to take the non-conference matchup against the Blue Devils winning 5-2.
In the first period, UW-Stout (5-9-2) had two power play opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the game, but St. Johns University (6-8-2) killed off both penalties.
As the Johnnies had the momentum, St. John's Max Borst scored the first goal of the night at 12:56 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Conner Couet and Justin Thompson.
After the St. Johns goal, the Johnnies went on their first power play of the night at 13:29, but Stout was able to kill of the penalty.
After one period, the Johnnies outshot the Blue Devils 14-8.
The second period started and 4:19 into the period the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard when
Brandon Connett beat the Johnnies goalie. The goal was assisted by
Brendan Boyce and
Kobe Keller.
At 5:40 into the period, St. Johns went on their second power play of the night. But just three seconds into the power play, the Johnnies took a penalty making it four on four hockey for 1:57. No goals were accounted for during the four on four play and both power plays.
Stout had another power play opportunity at 8:27, but couldn't break the tie.
At 15:01, the game saw another four on four play, but both teams couldn't break the 1-1 tie.
But at 18:10 of the second period, St. Johns broke the tie when Danny Eckerline scored his first goal of the season. Max Borst assisted on the goal and Johnnies led 2-1.
At the end of two periods, St. Johns led in shots, 25-21.
In the third period, Stout went on a power play at 33 seconds. During the power play, the Blue Devils took a penalty to make it four on four hockey. During the four on four, the Blue Devils tied it up at two. The goal was scored by
Kullan Daikawa with assists from
Sam Kroon and
Gunner Moore.
Two minutes later at 4:20 of the period, Johnnies Jackson Borst broke the tie with an assist from Justin Thompson. During the goal, a penalty was called and St. John's would go on a power play. But Stout stood their ground and killed the penalty.
At 10:59 of the period, St. Johns scored another goal to make the game 4-2. Spencer Rudrud scored the goal with assists from Cody Carlson and Zach Enebak.
Stout had a chance to get to within one goal when they went on a power play at 13:20 of the third period, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Blue Devils would skate six on five with emptying the net, but St. John's scored to make the final 5-2. Cam Boche scored with an assist from Logan Lyke.
