LA CROSSE - The Blue Devil volleyball picked up a pair of wins at the UW-La Crosse Volleyball Tournament to improve to 11-0 and the best start to a season in program history.
The Basics Game 1
Score: UW-Stout 3 – Macalester College 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19)
Record: Blue Devils (10-0), Scots (5-6)
Location: Mitchell Hall Gymnasium - La Crosse, Wis.
The Blue Devils topped Macalester in three sets to open the day. Stout trailed early 5-2 and 9-6, but rallied to tie the set at nine. The teams traded points and remained tied at 16. Stout then closed on a 9-3 run to take the set 25-19. Stout quickly jumped out to a 9-3 lead in set two and kept the Scots at arms length the rest of the way to win 25-18. The third set was close early on but Stout was able to take a 15-11 advantage midway through the set. the Blue Devils traded points the rest of the way to go on to win 25-19 and sweet the the match.

Score: UW-Stout 3 – Lakeland University (25-21, 18-25, 18-25, 30-28, 15-12)
Record: Blue Devils (11-0), Muskies (3-7)
Location: Mitchell Hall Gymnasium - La Crosse, Wis.
The Blue Devils won a five set thriller to stay perfect on the season. Neither team could pull away in the first set, trading points throughout. Tied at 21, Stout rattled off four straight points, including back-to-back kills by Brook McCune and
Lydia Kneubuehl to seal the win for Stout. The second set was back and forth and tied at 16, But the Blue Devils couldn't get any momentum down the stretch and Lakeland closed on a 9-2 run to take the set and even the match at one. Stout opened up the third set 4-1 but the Muskies quickly tied it at six. The teams again traded points abd were still tied at 16. Just like the second set Lakeland closed on a big run to take a two-sets to one lead with a 15-18 win. The their backs against the wall the Blue Devils battled in the fourth set. Neither team could gain any advantage, with the teams trading points. Stout took the lead late at 24-23 and 25-24, but twice couldn't get the final point. Lakeland had set point at 26-25 but a kill by Anna Hanson kept the Blue Devils alive. Stout had two more chances to win the set before
Sidney Hoverman forced a fifth set with kill to give stout the 30-28 set win. Stout quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth, only to see Lakeland rally to tie at eight. Stout took the lead at 12-9. the Muskies pulled within one at 12-11 but a kill from
Lauren Duenkel and two Lakeland attacking errors allowed Stout to escape with with 15-12 win and remain undefeated.
