LA CROSSE - The UW-Stout softball split a doubleheader against UW-Platteville Sunday afternoon. Falling 4-3 in game one and winning 5-2 in game two.
GAME 1
The Pioneers scored two in teh bottom of the sixth to rally to win 4-3 in game one. Stout struck first with a two-out two-run double by
Lexy Kupczak. UWP got a run back in the bottom of the first. Stout appeared to extend their lead in the of the second. With the bases loaded and one out.
Ashley Jacobson hit a fly ball down the left field line.
Katelyn Belleau tagged up on the play and appeared to score, sliding under the tag, but was called out for the inning ending double play. UWP tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and Stout retook the one-run advantage with a Makensie Wolterstorff RBI double in the sixth. The Pioneers got back-to-back two-out singles in the sixth to take the lead. Stout was unable to score in the seventh and dropped game one 4-3. Kupczak went 2-2 with two rbi and a run scored. Wolterstorff pitched six innings striking out four in the loss.
GAME 2
The Blue Devils scored four in the fifth inning to salvage a split of the doubleheader with a 5-2 win.
Ashley Jacobson drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single to right field in the top of the third. UWP responded in the bottom of the inning to know the game at 1. In the top of the fifth, Belleau scored on a throwing error,
Payton Dolecki followed with an RBI double to double the lead.
Kayli Pfeffer and Kupczak hit back-to-back singles to extend the lead to 5-1. The Pioneers got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Blue Devils minimized the damage with an inning ending double play. Wolterstorff got the Pioneers out in order in the final two innings to pick up the save. Pfeffer was 3-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Dolecki was 2-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Anna Blanford pitched 4.1 innings and struck out three to pick up the win.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will return home to host the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater on Saturday April 29. The games are set to start at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
