MENOMONIE - The UW-Stout softball team split their home opener doubleheader with rival UW-Eau Claire, winning the first game 7-6 and falling in the seocnd 4-1 at Alumni Field Tuesday evening.
GAME 1
A seven-run fourth inning lifted Stout to a 7-6 win over UW-Eau Claire. After a scoreless three innings, UWEC worked a bases loaded walk to break the ice in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Stout responded in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs on five hits to take a 7-1 lead.
Alyssa Albrecht started the inning with a infield single.
Katelyn Belleau walked and
Payton Dolecki loaded the bases with another infield single.
Kayli Pfeffer then drove in two with thanks to an error by the shortstop. Lexy Kupzcak hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1
Ashley Jacobson then drew a walk and
Alexa Anderson reached on a fielders choice to put runners at first and second.
Mackensie Wolterstorff hit a RBI single to center and
Emma Muehlenbeck followed with a single to center driving in two more runs. Albrecht drove in the final run of the inning with another single to center. UWEC added three in the sixth to draw within two and made thing interesting in the top of the seventh but Wolterstorff struck out the final batter to secure the win. Wolterstorff struck out eight over seven innings to pick up the comeplete game win. Albrecht went 2-3 with an RBI
GAME 2
Three errors in the top of the first proved to be the difference maker as UW-Eau Claire scored three times in the first to split the doubleheader with a 4-1 win. Stout managed just three hits with
Ashley Jacobson notching two, going 2-2. Wolterstorff pitched another complete game giving up just one earned run in the loss.Â

The Blue Devils will head to River Falls on Saturday, April 15 for a double header with the UW-River Falls Falcons. The games are set to start at 1 and 3 p.m.
