Baseball Splits WIAC Opener at La Crosse

Blue Devils Fall 10-4 in game one and win game two 17-4

LA CROSSE - The Blue Devil baseball team opened the WIAC season with a split at UW-La Crosse, Falling 10-4 in the first game and winning 17-4 in the second. 

GAME 1
UW-La Crosse got 17 hits and used a five-run eighth to win game one 10-4. Stout started the game quickly. Riley Boushack led off with a home run to right. Justin Sedin singled and Jacoby Endreas crushed a ball to deep right to give the Blue Devils an early 3-0 lead. La Crosse responded right away in the bottom of the inning. The Eagles put the first two men on base and then two batters later got a 3-run home run from  Anthony Vivian to tie the game. La Crosse took the lead in the bottom of the third with a two-out two-run double. Stout got a run back in the top of the sixth off of a Jack Schirpke RBI single. but couldn't get any closer and the Eagles added five runs in the bottom of the eighth to take game one. Sedin was 2-4 with a run scored. 

GAME 2
The Stout bats woke up in game two, with 18 hits and five home runs as the Blue Devils took game two 17-4.  Nolan Harke opened the scoring with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth. He then hit and RBI double in the sixth. Levi Wilson followed with a sac bunt and Riley Boushack hit a RBI double to right to give Stout a 6-0 lead. La Crosse got a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to make things interesting heading into the final frame. The bats came alive in the top of the ninth. Sedin led off the inning with a home run, Colin Hageman singled and Endreas hit a two-run homer and  Stout led 10-4. But the Blue Devils weren't done, Parker Hagebock singled and Schirpke hit a two-run home run. The next two batters reached on singles before Wilson hit a three-run bomb to give stout a 15-4 advantage. Boushack was then hit by a pitch and Sedin reached on a single and Hageman walked to load up the bases. Schirpke and Thomas then worked walks to drive in the last two runs. In total, Stout scored 10 runs on nine hits and four home runs in the innings to blow past the Eagles and split the double-header. Justin Sedin finished 4-5 with three runs scored and a RBI. Parker Hagebock was 3-5 with two runs scored. Nolan Harke was 3-5 with three runs scored and four RBI and Jack Schirpke went 2-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Tucker Beving pitched 7.1 innings and gave u four hits and struck out six to pick up the win. 

 
UP NEXT
Stout will return to La Crosse tomorrow, March 26 to face the Eagles in another double header. The games are set to start at 12 and 3 p.m.
