Senior Night Magic: Stout takes double OT thriller

Stout trailed as much as 17 before taking the game into overtime against La Crosse

The Basics

Score: UW-Stout 95, UW-La Crosse 90, 2OT

Record: Blue Devils (17-6, 9-3), Eagles (17-6, 6-6)

Location: Johnson Fieldhouse - Menomonie, Wis.  What. A. Game. The Eagles jumped out and used their top-ranked defense to stifle the Blue Devils. La Crosse led by as much 17 with 5 minutes to go in the second quarter. Stout trailed by more than 10 for most of the third quarter, but as time was expiring, Raegan Sorensen jumped in front of the La Cross inbound pass off her made lay-up and finished another layup, pulling Stout with 6 going into the fourth. Stout didn't take the lead until 46 seconds left in the fourth, but La Crosse quickly took it back, going up by 3 with 12 seconds left.

Allison Letcher answered the call with a step-back three over a close defender, tying the game and sending it into overtime. Both teams battled, but Stout took a 5 point lead in the second overtime before La Crosse made a three pointer and some free throws to tie it back up at 85 a piece. This sent the game into a second overtime, where Stout held on strong and finished it out with a 10-5 run, securing the 95-90 win over La Crosse.   Top Performers 
 

  • Sorensen led all scorers with 30, finishing the game a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Sorensen also pulled down 8 rebounds
  • Anna Mutch finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Amanda Giesen finished with 16 points and 6 assists.
  • Elissa Lodermeier played a huge role coming off the bench, scoring 13 points with 4 for 5 from the field. Lodermeier made some key baskets in Stout's win
  • Haylee Yaeger also hit double digits with 10 points
  • La Crosse had five players in double-digits: Kyah Steiner (18), Lauryn Milne (16), Alana Gilles (15), Carly Coulthart (13), and Kailee Meeker (12). Coulthart also had 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

  • Stout only led for 13% of the game.
  • The Blue Devils won the battle on the glass, pulling down 44 rebounds (with 17 offensive) to the Eagles 31.
