Three Goal Third Period Rallies Stout to 3-3 Tie at No. 12 Augsburg

Augsburg at Stout battle to 3-3 tie. Auggies win shootout 2-0

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Blue Devils scored three goals in the third period to earn a tie with the 12th ranked Auggies.

UW-Stout (0-1-1) picked up a non-conference tie with No. 12 Augsburg (1-1-1) but fell 2-0 in a shootout Saturday night at Ed Saugestad Arena.

The Blue Devils were controlling most of the play through the first forty minutes but were unable to solve Auggies goaltender Samuel Vyletelka, who made 33 saves, and trailed 2-0 heading into the third.

Maksis Brimanis scored his second goal of the season five minutes into the third to cut the Auggie lead to 2-1. Four minutes later, McCabe Dvorak scored his first collegiate goal on a feed from Matt Dahlseide to tie the game at two with just under 11 minutes to play.

With 7:18 left in regulation Augsburg scored to retake the lead at 3-2. Just seconds after Blue Devils goaltender Dawson Green was pulled for the extra attacker, Kullan Daikawa scored his first of the season to tie the game at three with 2:03 left in regulation.

For the second straight season Augsburg and Stout played a 3x3 overtime period. Stout had several chances to score but were unable to find the winner and settled for the 3-3 tie.
  • Augsburg would go on to win the "just for fun" shootout 2-0.
  • Dawson Green finished with 27 saves for the Blue Devils.
  • Boyd Stahlbaum picked up two assists and now has four points in two games.
  • Freshman Sam Kroon picked up his first career points on an assist on Brimanis' goal.
