DULUTH, Minn. - The Blue Devils dropped the season opener 7-4 to host College of St. Scholastica Friday Night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
A four-goal first period doomed the UW-Stout Blue Devils (0-1-0) in their season opening 7-4 loss to (RV) St. Scholastica (2-0-0). CSS scored three goals in the a 2:39 second span early in the first period.
Maksis Brimanis scored in the slot on a nice feed from
Kullan Daikawa to get Stout on the board with 5:19 left in the opening frame. But CSS regained the three goal advantage with their fourth of the period with 1:08 to play.
Stout fell behind 5-1 just under three minutes into the second period. A 1:15 later
Kobe Keller scored from the right circle to cut the lead to 5-2.
Noe Perez scored midway through the period with a power play blast from the blue line to get Stout within two. Just sixty-seven seconds later freshman
Boyd Stahlbaum scored his first collegiate goal when he skated down the left side all alone and buried the puck to bring Stout within one at 5-4.
CSS scored five minutes into the third to regain the two-goal advantage and Stout was unable to get anything past the Saints netminder. CSS added an empty net goal with 2:02 to play to seal the win.
