WHITEWATER - Hailey Kane's first career hat trick lifted the Blue Devils to their first win over UW-Whitewater since 2011.
Kane had three goals and an assist and
Carly Kauffman scored and had a helper as the UW-Stout Blue Devils (4-10-2, 1-5-1) topped the UW-Whitewater Warhawks (5-8-3, 1-4-1) 4-2 to pick up their first WIAC win of the season and stay alive in the race for the conference tournament.
After surrendering a goal in the ninth minute, Kane responded ten minutes later. Kauffman passed the ball back front the six yard box to just inside the 18 and Kane buried her second goal of the year to tie to the match at a goal a piece. Seven minutes later, Kane returned the favor finding Kaufman inside the six, who tapped in the goal from the left side to give Stout the 2-1 advantage. Stout scored on both of their shots on goal in the opening 45.
Kane notched her second of the game and third of the season in the 52nd minute. The ball was loose inside the six off of a corner kick and Kane made no mistake finding the back of the net from a couple yards out to give Stout a 3-1 advantage. Whitewater pulled within one just after the hour mark with Emily Thrill scoring her second of the game for the Warhawks.
Kane gave the Blue Devils breathing room in the 81st minute. Kauffman poked a ball up to Kane just past midfield, Kane then dished to
Lauren Boyd, Boyd then lofted a ball over three Warhawks and Kane run under the pass, settling the ball at the top of the right side of the 18 yard box and lifted a beautiful ball into the top left corner for her third goal of the game and fourth in the last two contests.
