MENOMONIE - Ava Tomas scored late to complete the Blue Devils(5-10-2) comeback 3-2 win over UW-Superior (12-6-1) on a rainy Tuesday night at Nelson Field.
Ava Tomas scored her first career goal in the 85th minute to lift Stout to non-conference win in the final home game of the 2023 season.
UW-Superior got on the scorboard early. In the fifth minute, the Yellowjackets Niya Wilson scored her 20th of the season. In the 13th minute, Superior doubled the lead with on a goal from Mya Holmquist. Stout was able to turn the momentum just 90 seconds later, when
Hailey Kane took a nice feed from Melanie Walisch to notch her fifth goal of the season and fifth of the last three games to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 15th minute. 12 minutes later
Carly Kauffman found the WIAC offensive Player of the Week for kane's second of the half and sixth of the year.Â
The second half was scoreless despite both teams having several chances. The Blue Devils attempted nine shots in the half, Stout had a good look to break the tie, but Blue Devils shot was saved and then cleared, Stout then cashed in on the ensuing corner kick.
Sami Moseng headed the ball towards net, the volley was headed right back to her, she flipped a nice pass over to Tomas who lifted a shot over the keeper and into the left side of the net for the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes remaining.Â
Claire Olson faced 14 shots and made five saves on seven shots on target to pick up her second win of the year.Â
The Blue Devils came back from a two goal deficit to win for the first time since Oct. 18, 2009 when they rallied from 0-2 hole against St. Catherine.Â
