Late Goal Sinks Blue Devils in 1-0 Loss to UW-River Falls

MENOMONIE - A late goal scored in the 80th minute lifted the UW-River Falls Falcons (6-3-3, 1-1-1) to a 1-0 win over UW-Stout (3-7-2, 0-3-0) Wednesday night at Nelson Field. 

 The Falcons got a couple of good bounces late to break the 0-0 tie. In the 80th minute, a long ball bounced over the defense and the Flacon forward raced in and her low shot banged of the post and into the net with 10:12 left on the clock. 

The Blue Devils attempted three shots in the ten minutes, but only found its way on target with a minute to play. Stout attempted 13 shots but only two on target. The Falcons attempted 16 with eight on target. Kristen Silenzi made seven saves. 

The first half started slow with just 10 shot attempts between the tow teams, six for UWRF and four the Blue Devils, Stout had one corner kick and the fouls were two apiece.  The pace of play ratcheted up in the second half, River Falls attempted 10 shots and Stout with nine. both teams had three corner kicks. The Falcons committed eight fouls in the final forty-five minutes of play.

The Blue Devils host the UW-Platteville Pioneers on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Nelson Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
