Blue Devils skate past #9 Stevens Point. Win 3-1

MENOMONIE (January 28, 2023) - After dropping the game last night, UW-Stout (15-5-1, 6-4-1 WIAC) sought redemption against #9 UW-Stevens Point (13-5-3, 9-2-0 WIAC) winning the game 3-1. 

In the first period, the Pointers went on the power play at 5:30. During the power play, Stout's Dylan Rallis had a breakaway opportunity to get a short-handed goal, but was denied by Wagner. The penalty was eventually killed and both teams skated full strength for the rest of the period. 

After the first period, Stout led in the shot category 7-5. 

In the second period, the Blue Devils got on the board first at 3:27 when Matt Dahlseide scored his sixth goal of the season to make the game 1-0. The goal was assisted by Jacob Halvorson

The first 11 minutes of the period, Stout led in total shots 20-7. But at the end of the period, shots were tied at 20-20. 

In the third period, Stout's Dylan Rallis scored at 7:26 to take a two goal lead. The goal was unassisted to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead. 

At 7:42 of the period, Stout went on a power play, but took a penalty at 9:35. The game skated four on four for seven seconds and the Pointers went on a power play for 1:53. During the Pointer's power play, Fletcher Anderson scored to make the game 2-1 at 10:27 of the third period. The goal was assisted by Mick Heneghan and Andrew Poulias. 

The Blue Devils had another power play opportunity at 12:19 of the period, but the Pointers killed off the penalty. 

Stevens Point emptied their net to skate six on five with only 2:15 left in the game. But with 24 seconds left to play, Stout's Caleb Serre sealed the win with his fourth goal of the year on the empty net goal. 

Blue Devil's Tyler Masternak got his ninth win on the year stopping 28 shots. Pointer's Ryan Wagner saved 25 Stout shots. 

Up next for the Blue Devils is a home matchup against UW-Superior on Wednesday, February 1 with a puck drop at 7 p.m.
