Blue Devils fall to Pointers 4-1

MENOMONIE (January 27, 2023) - In the second meeting of the year, UW-Stevens Point (13-4-3, 9-1-0 WIAC) beat UW-Stout (14-5-1, 5-4-1 WIAC) by a score of 4-1. 

At 3:35 of the game, Stevens Point went on their first power play. During the power play, the Pointers took a penalty and the game saw four on four hockey. Both teams killed off the power plays. 

In the first 13 minutes of the game, Stout led in the shot category 8-0. 

At 12:10 of the period, Stevens Point went on the power play, but Stout killed off the penalty. 

After one period, the game was tied at 0-0. The Blue Devils led in shots 10-5. 

In the second period at 2:44, the Pointers got on the board first on a power play. Sean Bunting scored for Stevens Point on the power play goal to make the game 1-0. 

At 5:19 of the period, Stevens Point went on another power play. But during the power play, the Pointers took a penalty to make the game four on four. During the four on four play, Pointer's Wilson Northey scored to make the game 2-0. The goal was assisted by Brett Humberstone and Jordan Fader. 

At 9:26 of the second period, Stout found the back of the net when Kullan Daikawa scored his fifth goal of the season. Assists were awarded to Jake Theis and Noe Perez to make the game 2-1. After the Blue Devil's goal, Stevens Point took a penalty and Stout went on their first power play at 9:26 of the period. 

During the Stout power play, the Blue Devils had a few chances, but could not find the tying goal. Stevens Point killed off the penalty. 

At 16:22 of the period, the Pointers went on a power play. During the power play, Stout took another penalty and saw a five on three. During the five on three, Stevens Point's Fletcher Anderson scored to make the game 3-1. The power play goal was assisted by Mick Heneghan and Tyler German. 

At the end of the second period, Stevens Point led in shots 21-18. Stout would skate a man down for four seconds to start the third period. 

At 23 seconds of the third period, Stevens Point went on another power play. Stout killed off the penalty and at 4:35 of the period, would go on their own power play. But the Pointers killed off the penalty to skate even strength. 

At 15:30, Stout went on another power play, this time pulling their goalie to skate six on four. But the Pointers killed the penalty. The Blue Devils continued to skate with a one man advantage with an empty net. 

At 18:09 of the third period, Sam Ayd shot it from the red line to score and seal the win 4-1. The goal was assisted by Jake Theis. 

Blue Devil's Dawson Green stopped 22 Pointer's shots. Stevens Point's Ryan Wagner secured the win and stopped 29 saves. 

Up next for the Blue Devils is another matchup between the Pointers on January 28 at the Fanetti Community Center. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
