SUPERIOR (September 6, 2022) - Neither team could get the ball to the back of the net as UW-Stout and UW-Superior played to a scoreless tie Tuesday at the NBC Spartan Complex.
For the Yellowjackets (0-1-2), it was their second consecutive scoreless contest. For the Blue Devils (0-2-1), it was their first scoreless contest since Oct. 15, 2017, when Stout hosted Concordia-Moorhead. The NCAA no longer requires overtime after a tied score in regulation during the regular season.
Both goalies stopped anything sent their way. The Blue Devils'
Julia McNamar (Sr, Belleville) notched her third career shutout. McNamar stopped six shots on net, while the Yellowjackets' Quinn Clark had seven saves. McNamar made four first half saves, while Clark had five second half saves.
The Blue Devils out-shot Superior 19-10. Stout put the pressure on late in the game, putting two shots on net in the 83rd minute, then went just wide right of the post on a shot with less than five minutes remaining.
Caylee Boone (Sr, Eau Claire) and
Hailey Kane (So, Green Bay) each put two shots on net, while
Marissa Steele (Sr, Farmington, Minn), Lindsay Redepenning (Fr, Elk River, Minn) and
Carly Kauffman (So, Hanover, Minn) each had one shot on goal. Redepenning, playing in her first collegiate game, led all players with four total shots. The Yellowjackets' Niya Wilson had three total shots with one shot on net.
The tied game put an end to Stout's 26-game winning streak over the Yellowjackets. Stout now holds a 26-0-2 record against Superior.
Stout returns home this Thursday, Sept. 8 when they host St. Norbert College at 7 p.m. at Nelson Field. Stout will travel to Concordia-Moorhead, Saturday, Sept. 10 for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
