Stout tennis opens season with a pair of 8-1 wins in Illinois

MONMOUTH, Ill (September 3, 2022) - The UW-Stout tennis team opened up the 2022 season with a pair of 8-1 wins, downing Monmouth College and the University of Dubuque in a triangular at Monmounth College Saturday.

Ellie Becker (So, St. James, Minn) captured a pair of wins at No. 2 singles, downing host Monmouth's Emily Laughlin, 6-4, 6-0, and Dubuque's Alyssa Stevenson, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Ashlyn Delleman (Manitowoc) picked up a pair of wins in her collegiate debut, defeating Monmouth's Emily Henson at No. 4 singles, 6-1. 5-7, 10-6 and Dubuque's Abby Drost at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0. 

Against Monmouth, Lauren Couves (Sr, Ames, Iowa) recorded win at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Natalie Labicki. Ella Lampa (Fr, Virginia, Minn) won at No. 5 over Jennifer Shimmin, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) and Lexie Stein (Fr, Sun Prairie) defeated julia Mheidze, 6-0, 6-2.

Against Dubuque, Madeline Binczak (Jr, Eau Claire) won at No. 4, defeating Taitiana Ptaszek, 6-0, 6-3. The Blue Devils took forfeit wins at No. 5 and No. 6.

Stout won all of their contested doubles matches. Becker and Couves picked up an 8-7 (7-4) win over Monmouth and an 8-3 win over Dubuque. Kylie Rennie (Sr, Wausau) combined with Lamppa to win at No. 2 doubles over Monmouth, 8-5, and with Delleman to win 8-3 over Dubuque. Stein and Maddie Westerholm (Fr, Prior Lake, Minn) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-0, over Monmouth and picked up a forfeit win against Dubuque. 

The Blue Devils will be off until the host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.
