UW-Stout 0, Luther College 0
MENOMONIE (September 28, 2022) - Lily Shield recorded her first career shutout, as UW-Stout played the Norse of Luther College to a scoreless tie on Wednesday night at Nelson Field.
The Norse (4-3-2) came out of the gates with a strong and aggressive offensive push, but the Blue Devils (1-7-2) defense held strong.
Andi Romenesko,
Hannah Hagman,
Hailey Kane, and
Sydney Rahn played some strong defensive minutes for the Blue Devils.
Lily Shield anchored the goal for the Blue Devils, recording six saves in a strong performance.
The Norse had a chance to score in the final minute off a corner kick, but Shield batted the ball away. Stout then was able to clear the ball as time expired.
On the offensive side, Stout had some good looks from
Caylee Boone (3 shots on goal),
Kennedy Beld (1), and
Lauren Chukel (1), but none found their way past the Norse keeper. Maggie Haller had eight shots for the Norse, but only one on goal. Emma Lin and Sammie Sabin each had two shots stopped by Shield.
As a team Stout had 12 shots compared to Luther's 17. Luther controlled the ball for 55-percent of the game, and spent 23-percent of that time in Stout's attacking zone. The fast-paced game saw lots of fouls, with Stout recording seven fouls and Luther 11. Stout had two yellow cars and Luther one.
