Thirty-two Blue Devils see action on rainy Friday night

Stout falls to Viterbo, 2-0

Viterbo University 2, UW-Stout 0

MENOMONIE (September 16, 2022) - Non-conference action on a rainy Friday night saw 32 Blue Devils on the field throughout the course of the game. UW-Stout (1-4-1) matched-up against the Viterbo V-Hawks (5-2-1) on Friday, September 16 at Nelson Field. The V-Hawks came out on top, defeating Stout 2-0.

The V-Hawks had some good look on goal, but Freshman Lily Black and the rest of the Stout defense were able to make sure the attacks didn't turn into goals. Black, in her first game as the Blue Devils Keeper, made her two saves of the game back-to-back. After knocking away a V-Hawk shot, the rebounding ball bounced back to another V-Hawk who took a second shot on goal. Black made the diving save to stop the back-to-back shots.

The V-Hawks finally found the back of the net late in the first half, when Grace Breuchel broke away and found an angle on goal. The ball rolled almost parallel with the goal before hitting the pole and rolling in. Breuchel found the back of the net again to start off the second half, scoring a header goal off a corner kick from Alex Little.

Lily Shield saw action in net for the first time too, playing the whole second half for the Blue Devils. Shield made two saves and allowed one goal. The Blue Devils finished with six shots, two on goal, Viterbo had 15 shots, six on goal. Marissa Steele and Lindsey Redepenning each had a shot on goal for Stout.

Viterbo led the possession game, controlling the ball for 51-percent of the game, but the Blue Devils yet again show they can put on the pressure, spending 20-percent of the time in the attacking zone.

Stout has two quick games in a four day span, returning back to Nelson Field to face the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday night before traveling to Bethel University for a Tuesday evening match-up.
