UW-Stevens Point 3, UW-Stout 1
STEVENS POINT (September 14, 2022) - UW-Stout opened the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season by taking 21st-ranked UW-Stevens Point to four games on the Pointers' home court Wednesday.
After the Pointers (8-1, 1-0 WIAC) won the first set 25-15, the Blue Devils (4-6, 0-1 WIAC) came roaring back in the second set. Stout did not trail in the set and captured a 25-19 decision. Stout stayed within striking range in the third set and trailed 19-16 before the Pointers ended with a solid run to take a 25-17 win. Stevens Point captured the fourth and deciding set, 25-13.
Sidney Hoverman (Jr, St. Croix Falls) led the way for Stout with 12 kills on a hitting percentage of .310.
Caroline Braun (Sr, Mantorville, Minn) finished with six kills. Braun had a pair of assisted blocks and
Jessica Barr (Sr, Bloomer) had three blocks.
The Pointers' Ashley Kopp led all players with 21 kills and four service aces. Stevens Point connected on 11 service aces. Sydney Mosinski collected 10 kills.
Stout will be at the UW-Eau Claire-hosted Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament this weekend where they will face Lakeland University, Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils return to Eau Claire Saturday, Sept. 17 to meet Finlandia University at 11 a.m. and the College of St. Benedict at 1 p.m.
