Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball team records a sweep on final day of St. Kate Invite

UW-Stout 3, Martin Luther College 0 | UW-Stout 3, Central College 0

ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 10, 2022) - For the first time this season, the UW-Stout volleyball team was able to post a clean sweep on a single day at a tournament. Competing at the St. Catherine Wildcat Invitational, the Blue Devils swept Martin Luther College, 3-0, and Central College, 3-0.

Stout improved their overall record to 4-5 with impressive wins of 25-13, 25-16, 25-18, over Martin Luther, and 25-16, 25-23, 25-19, over the Dutch of Central College.

In the morning opener against Martin Luther, Sidney Hoverman (Jr, St. Croix Falls) nailed 15 kills to lead all players. Caroline Braun (Sr, Mantorville, Minn) kept her numbers up with seven kills. Allyssa Ihde (Jr, Rochester, Minn) and Jessica Barr (Sr, Bloomer) each had five kills.

Stout continued their run on putting down service aces, running off 12, with Terrah Moshier (Jr, Oakdale) and Maja Anderson (Fr, Eau Claire) each dropping in three aces. Kennedy Barrett (So, Duluth, Minn), who had 27 assists, also had two service aces, as did Barr and Hoverman. Barr finished with three assisted blocks. Barrett and Lydia Kneubuehl (Sr, Cottage Grove) each had a solo block.

After posting an attack percentage over .300 in three of their last four matches, the Blue Devils had to learn how win while not attacking the ball well.

Stout hit only .110 for the match against Central, but made up some ground in the serving game and the blocking game. Again Stout served well, and Anderson in particular, who recorded six of Stout's 10 service aces.

The Blue Devils had four solo blocks, with Hoverman getting two and Barr and Anna Hansen (Jr, Eau Claire) each getting one. Barr also had two assisted blocks.

Hoverman led Stout in kills with eight. Braun had six and Barr and Hansen each had five.

Stout finished the tournament winning three of four matches at the St. Kate's meet and four of five matches on the entire week

Stout will open conference play Wednesday, Sept. 14 at No. 24 UW-Stevens Point, then will meet Lakeland University, Finlandia University and the College of St. Benedict at the UW-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Invitational Sept. 16-17.
