SAN ANTONIO, Texas (September 1, 2022) - The UW-Stout volleyball team opened the season with a thrilling 28-26 first set win over Texas Lutheran University at the Trinity University Invitational, then dropped a second tight set, 25-23, to the Bulldogs. Stout could not bounce back and fell in the tournament's opening match, 3-1, Thursday, at Bell Center.
Sidney Hoverman (Jr, St. Croix Falls) and
Caroline Braun (Sr, Prescott) led Stout's offensive attack, with Hoverman pounding down 16 kills and Braun collecting a career-best 13 kills. The Blue Devils lost 26-28, 25-23, 25-13, 25-20.Â
Braun led the way in the first set with five kills and Hoverman was right behind with four. Hoverman had six kills in set two. The pair each had three kills in the third set, with Stout scoring on only eight kills total for the set. The duo repeated the feat in the fourth set, each collecting three kills of Stout's eight total.
Kennedy Barrett (So, Duluth, Minn), making her first start at setter, finished the night with 33 assists, coming close to her career totals of 42.Â
Staci Meyer (Sr, Rice, Minn) finished with a team-best 18 digs. Stout finished the night with nine service aces with Barrett,
Maja Anderson (Fr, Eau Claire) and
Jessica Barr (Sr, Bloomer) each getting two.Â
Maddy Schultz had 19 kills for the Bulldogs and Tanyse Moehrig tallied 11.Â

Stout will meet 24th ranked Transylvania, Friday, Sept. 2, and sixth ranked Berry College, Saturday, Sept. 3. The Blue Devils will conclude the tournament by facing Edgewood College Saturday afternoon.
