ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 1, 2022) - UW-Stout scored their first goal of the season early in the fourth minute, but could not hold off Hamline University in the season opener, dropping a 2-1 road contest Thursday.

All of the scoring in this game came early - in the first six minutes of the game.

Caylee Boone (Sr, Eau Claire) opened the scoring for the contest, taking a pass from fellow senior Rachel Younker (Sr, Genoa, Ill) only 3-minutes, 11-seconds, into the game.

But Hamline got the equalizer in what appeared to be only seconds later when Maya Dempsky scored in the fourth minute. The Pipers (1-0-0) took the lead in the sixth minute on a goal by Carin Currier.

That would be the end of the scoring as both teams played shutout ball the rest of the way.

The Blue Devils (0-1-0) started Julia McNamar in goal. McNamar last season played between the pipes last year in two games in an emergency role. The senior from Belleville picked up the gloves and donned the goalie colors again, this time recording four saves after allowing the two early goals.

The Pipers split their goalies for equal minutes, with Lauren Sicora getting the start and the win, allowing the one goal and making a save. Ava Braun played the second half and had two stops.

The home team outshot Stout 17-15 overall, and 6-4 in shots on goal. Boone, Younker, Lauren Boyd (So, Buffalo, Minn) and Kate Holst (Fr, Mahtomedi, Minn) all recorded a shot on net, while Younker had three shots, Marissa Steele (Sr, Farmington, Minn) two and Hailey Kane (So, Green Bay) two. The Blue Devils played 24 players in the game.

Stout opens the home portion of their schedule Saturday, Sept. 3 when they host Augsburg University at 1 p.m. at Nelson Field.
