Eagles complete sweep over Blue Devils with pair of wins Monday

UW-La Crosse 14, UW-Stout 3 | UW-La Crosse 10, UW-Stout 0 (7 inn)

MENOMONIE (April 25, 2022) - UW-Stout couldn't string enough offense together and UW-La Crosse completed the four-game series sweep with 14-3, 10-0 (7 inn) wins Monday at Nelson Field.

In the 10 a.m. opener, the teams played close for the first six innings. The Eagles (16-13, 11-9) scored single runs in the first and third innings and carried the 2-0 lead into the fourth inning.

Levi Wilson led off the fourth inning with a walk then moved to third on Joel Thimsen's double to left field. Charlie Szykowny slashed a single through the right side to score both runners and tie the score at 2 apiece. The Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the fifth and Stout (15-15, 10-10 WIAC) tied the game again in the sixth inning when Riley Boushack plated Szykowny.

The Eagles exploded for 11 runs in the final three innings to take command, scoring three in the seventh, five in the eighth and three more in the ninth. La Crosse pounded out 19 hits to Stout's five hits.

La Crosse smashed five home runs in the second game, four to left field, and kept Stout away from home plate. The Eagles scored three runs in the second and third innings and two runs in the fourth for an 8-0 lead. A two-run blast by Jack Olver in the seventh gave the Eagles a 10-run advantage.

Stout best opportunity came in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases, but came up empty. Stout stranded seven runners in the second game.

Szykowny had two RBI in the first game. Thimsen was 2 for 3 and Paul Weise was 2 for 2 in the second game.

Stout returns to WIAC action when they travel to UW-Whitewater, Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.
